The Counties Manukau AOD Consumer Network was established by local AOD consumers in 2006, with financial assistance from Counties Manukau District Health Board.
As Network members, we aim to develop our own initiatives, and to help support each other on our 'recovery' journeys.
The network is made up of a diverse group of consumers from different backgrounds. Since the Network started about 40 percent of our members identify as being Maori. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Pacific, Asian and other consumer representatives of the diverse communities residing in Counties Manukau. We share a commitment to supporting other consumers to reduce harm, reduce stigma, and foster rich rewarding lives in 'recovery'. What the Network does is decided by the Network members so this is a real opportunity to get involved, be heard and make a difference!
Our Network is not an alternative to professional AOD ser vices; what we do will compliments those ser vices. Many Network members have personally accessed AOD services, and we maintain positive relationships with AOD service providers. This means that Network members are able to share their knowledge and experience of the range of AOD ser vice options available for consumers both in Counties and the wider Auckland region.
What is the Consumers Network and how can it help you, your loved ones and me?
Counties Manukau Alcohol and Other Drug Consumers Network is a Network in its early stages. It is a Network I believe will not take long to grow strong and solid. CM AOD CN has been formed by consumers for consumers on all levels of recovery. The Network for me, is a safe place where I am able to receive support from my peers. It is also a place where I can give back to fellow consumers.
The Network is in the process of starting up various support options. One of which is our Peer Support Group on Friday afternoons at Nathan Homestead (70 Hill Rd, Manurewa). This is a group where all are welcome. It is a safe place of refuge where you can receive support from fellow consumers.
Also in the pipeline are many great things for those in need and who have found themselves alone and trapped in the clutches of addiction. We are not a religious organisation, but I believe through Gods grace our Network will do great things for many.
Open your heart so you may receive. Evy Mitchell, Network Member.
